Forest Hill North is a small, quiet community with many shops and upscale traditional homes. It is an affluent neighborhood with a median family income 21% higher than Toronto Average.

Community Overview

The boundary of Forest Hill North runs from Allen Road and Marlee Avenue on the west to Lawrence Briar Hill Avenue on the North, Latimer Avenue on the east, and Eglinton Avenue on the south. Forest Hill North, also known as Upper Village, borders the western community of Toronto by the Allen Road Expressway.

1. Housing:

The original housing in Forest Hill North was first developed between 1930 and 1950, including Tudor and Georgian architectural styles. East of Roselawn Cemetery and Memorial Park, Homebuyers will find many homes with lot frontage between 25 and 35 feet. West of the Memorial Park has many larger houses with lot frontage ranging from 35 to 65 feet. In recent years, many elder homes have been torn down and transformed into multi-million dollar luxurious homes. Besides detached houses, several semi-detached houses and townhomes are along Eglinton Road. Many mid-rise condo buildings, co-ownership apartments, and rental properties are concentrated along Bathurst Street, Eglinton Avenue, Chapin Crescent, and Marlee Avenue. About 66% of the residents are tenants living in the area.

2. Demographic:

Forest Hill North is home to a sizeable Jewish community, with only 28% of the population being a visible minority. Nearly 69% of the residents are of European Origins, and 17% are of East and Southeast Asian Origins. Polish, British Isles origins, Rusian, Canadian, Filipino, English, and Jewish, are top ethnic origins. The number one birthplace of immigrants is the Philippines.

3. Transportation:

Roughly half of the residents travel by public transit. Numerous buses run through the community and have bus stops along Bathurst Street, Marlee Avenue, Eglinton Avenue, and Chaplin Crescent. Located in the southwest of the community, Eglinton West subway station connects the central transit system to downtown Toronto. Furthermore, Eglinton Crosstown LRT has three stations on Eglinton Avenue, curtailing the commute duration to other parts of the city. For Car commuters, Forest Hill North is within a short distance from the downtown core. In addition, the Allen expressway is at the west boundary of the community and links highway 401. Car commuters can quickly get onto the route and conveniently travel in all directions.

4. Recreation:

Starting from Allen Road and terminating on Mount Pleasant Road, The Belt Line trail is an 8.9km hiking path for residents. Memorial Park is an open space for running, playing, or having a picnic at the southeast corner of the community. Right beside Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, Forest Hill's Public Library has excellent education programs for adults and kids.

5. Shopping:

The most significant commercial spaces are along Eglinton Avenue. Shoppers can find many distinctive restaurants, antique shops, and specialty stores.

6. Schools:

Two public elementary schools serve students from JK to grade 6. East of Bathurst Street belongs to the school zone of North Preparatory Junior Public School. West Preparatory Junior Public School admits students living west of Bathurst Street. Both schools rank top in academic performance and are highly popular for families with young children.

Forest Hill Senior Public school accepts students from Grades 7 and 8. Furthermore, catholic families also have options to study at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School or Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School. High school students will attend Forest Hill Collegiate Institute. Forest Hill North is close to some top private schools, Havergal College, Upper Canada College, and The Bishop Strachan School in the neighboring communities.
